President Lee Approves Extension of 'Rebellion Special Prosecutor' Investigation... Special Prosecutor Team to Continue Probe Until Next Month 14th

President Lee Jae-myung has approved the final extension of the investigation period permitted under the Special Act on the Investigation of the Rebellion, so that the special investigation can achieve both the settlement of the rebellion and national unity, according to the presidential office on the 7th. This marks the third extension of the investigation period.

President Lee Jae-myung is delivering the policy speech on the 2026 budget proposal at the National Assembly on the morning of the 4th.

Previously, the special investigation team on the rebellion requested a 30-day extension of the investigation period under Article 10, Paragraph 4 of the Special Act on the Investigation of the Rebellion from President Lee Jae-myung on the 5th, in order to thoroughly uncover the truth of the December 3 Rebellion Incident. Special Prosecutor Park Jiyeon explained at a briefing the previous day, "A request for parliamentary consent to arrest Assemblyman Chu Kyungho of the People Power Party has been submitted to the National Assembly, and the tentative date for the plenary vote is expected to be the 27th."

With President Lee's approval of the extension, the special investigation team will be able to continue its investigation until December 14, instead of ending on November 14 as originally scheduled. The presidential office stated, "The Lee Jae-myung administration will continue to do its utmost to uphold the Constitution, protect democracy, and realize the sovereignty of the people."
