During the same period, SLL posted sales of 164.3 billion won and operating profit of 8.3 billion won. Its cumulative operating profit for the third quarter reached 14.2 billion won, and EBITDA rose by 117% year-on-year to 49.2 billion won. Contentree Joongang explained that the resumption of JTBC’s Friday drama increased the number of episodes aired, and that restructuring of its distribution channels and platform diversification led to a higher recoupment rate from online video services (OTT).
Strong content performance continued in the third quarter. The Disney+ original “Pine: Chontteugideul” entered the global TV TOP 10, while JTBC’s “Esquire” and “A Hundred Memories” both surpassed peak viewership ratings of 8%. The Friday dramas “A Good Man” and “My Youth” secured international audiences through simultaneous releases on Disney+ and Viu. SLL announced plans to release new titles by the end of the year, including “The Story of Manager Kim Who Works at a Major Company and Owns a House in Seoul,” “Waiting for Longitude,” and “The Price of Confession.”
US label wiip achieved the global No. 1 spot with season 3 of Prime Video’s “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” and HBO Max original “TASK” season 1 ranked in HBO’s top 5 most popular titles.
Variety label Studio Slam maintained its performance with “Crime Scene Zero” and “Just Makeup.” “Just Makeup” ranked No. 1 on Coupang Play’s popular titles for five consecutive weeks, and the company is expanding IP-based commerce collaborations. Studio Slam strengthened its production of seasonal variety shows with the release of “Black and White Chef Season 2,” and plans to enhance profitability next year with new variety shows such as “Sell Me the Show.”
Idol group Close Your Eyes has emerged as a global rising star, drawing attention with the success of its mini album in July and multiple awards. On November 11, they will release their third mini album “blackout,” in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning DJ Imanbek. The company expects to expand concert revenue next year through global tours.
Megabox Joongang posted sales of 78.4 billion won and operating profit of 2.7 billion won during the same period, returning to profitability compared to the previous quarter. The film “Demon Slayer: Mugen Castle Arc” ranked second in box office performance among Japanese animations in Korea, boosting results through increased audience numbers and merchandise sales. The Plus M-distributed film “Face,” despite being a small-scale production, attracted 1.07 million viewers and grossed 11 billion won at the box office, contributing to the turnaround.
Playtime Joongang also returned to profitability in the third quarter with sales of 17.1 billion won and operating profit of 1.2 billion won. New store openings and the summer vacation peak season drove the results. While the number of franchise stores decreased, the expansion of directly operated “Playtime Champion” locations led to increased customer inflow and higher sales year-on-year.
Playtime is preparing to open one new domestic location and two new overseas locations in the fourth quarter.
