The 2025 Pohang Steel Art Festival, which opened in October under the theme "Light and Steel" (named by novelist Kim Hoon), coincided with the APEC Summit and the Gyeongbuk Lifelong Learning Expo, drawing both domestic and international visitors. This has helped Pohang establish itself as a "city where steel and art coexist."
Now in its 14th year, the Steel Art Festival has evolved beyond its traditional focus on sculpture, transforming into a new humanities, technology, and citizen participation-oriented festival that reinterprets "steel" as a language of art.
In particular, the citizen participation programs "Steel Workshop Steel Art Workshop" and "Steel Tour" proved so popular that all sessions were fully booked as soon as reservations opened.
With active participation from families and young people, the city was filled with vibrant scenes of artistic energy.
A foundation representative stated, "This year’s Steel Art Festival saw more enthusiastic and voluntary participation from citizens than ever before. We hope that, during the extended period, even more people will experience the message of 'Light and Steel' and share in Pohang’s artistic identity."
