President Lee Orders Full Mobilization of Available Resources for 'Ulsan Collapse Accident' Rescue

President Lee: "Take Thorough Measures to Prevent Secondary Accidents Among Rescue Personnel"

On November 6, President Lee Jaemyung instructed that all available resources, including equipment and personnel, be fully mobilized for the accident response and, in particular, for the rescue of those trapped in the Ulsan collapse accident, according to spokesperson Kim Namjoon.
Spokesperson Kim also conveyed that President Lee urged thorough measures to prevent secondary safety accidents among rescue personnel.
Earlier, a major structure collapsed at the Ulsan Thermal Power Plant operated by Korea East-West Power in Nam-gu, Ulsan.
According to the National Fire Agency, after receiving a report at 2:02 p.m. on the same day, firefighters arrived at the scene within 16 minutes and declared the first level of fire response at 2:56 p.m., about 40 minutes later. The collapse occurred during the demolition of a boiler tower inside the thermal power plant, trapping workers underneath.
Currently, it is estimated that seven people are trapped, but the exact number is still being confirmed. A man in his 40s and two men in their 60s have been rescued but sustained serious injuries.
The fire authorities have mobilized 61 personnel and 19 pieces of equipment for the rescue operation.
Immediately after the accident, Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Hojoong issued an urgent directive, instructing the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the National Fire Agency, the National Police Agency, Ulsan City, and Nam-gu to fully mobilize available personnel and equipment for the rescue of those trapped, and to pay special attention to preventing safety accidents among firefighters during the rescue process.
Additionally, the police are ensuring strict control of the area around the site, while the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has dispatched an on-site situation manager to support the management of the situation at the scene.
