The number of seats available on the Suseo High-Speed Railway (SRT) will be expanded starting at the end of next year. As SRT operator SR deploys next-generation high-speed trains using its own budget, the daily seat supply will increase by approximately 25,000, from the current 52,000 to 77,000.
SR announced on the 5th that it had inspected the new 'EMU (Electric Multiple Unit)-320' train for any water leakage at its railcar inspection facility in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province. This train, currently being manufactured by Hyundai Rotem, consists of eight cars per trainset and offers 503 seats per set, with a total of 14 trainsets ordered.
SR plans to begin full-scale test runs starting next year and will receive the trains sequentially from the end of the year. The EMU-320 is an electric train equipped with a motor in each car, allowing for faster acceleration and deceleration compared to the conventional locomotive-hauled trains with concentrated power at the front and rear.
Lee Jongguk, CEO of SR, stated, "We will enhance the quality of the completed trains through rigorous performance testing and thorough pre-delivery inspections, and introduce the next-generation SRT in a timely manner."
