Soo Chemical Completes Smart Farm in Vietnam

Soo Chemical has begun establishing a full-scale local production model for Korean strawberries in the Southeast Asian market.

On November 4, Soo Chemical announced that "Ju Young-ISU Future Grow," a joint venture established in Vietnam with its local partner Jooyoung Construction, held a completion ceremony for its vertical farm. The enclosed indoor farm enables year-round production and is equipped with LED artificial lighting, hydroponic cultivation, and automatic temperature and humidity control systems.

The farm covers approximately 220 square meters and aims to produce more than 10 tons annually through a mobile cultivation bed system. An eco-friendly management system has been introduced, avoiding the use of chemical plant protection agents. The initial harvest has proven to be marketable in terms of average weight and sugar content. After completing commercialization and distribution tests by the end of this year, the company plans to supply the produce to local premium food stores and hotels.

As of 2023, Vietnam is the fourth largest importer of fresh Korean strawberries, with an import volume of about 650 tons, following Singapore, Hong Kong, and Thailand. Soo Chemical will use local production to explore import substitution and supply chain efficiency.

A Soo Chemical official stated, "The vertical farm is located just an hour from Ho Chi Minh City, which allows for rapid supply after harvest."

The official added, "We have not only verified the initial market potential but also secured a second project site with Jooyoung Construction. Once production and supply are stabilized in Vietnam, we will consider expanding into other Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern markets."

Going forward, Soo Chemical plans to enhance quality and reduce costs by stabilizing cultivation facilities, production, and introducing automation technologies to ensure the profitability of the vertical farm. The company will focus on refining cultivation recipes, securing data, and streamlining operational systems to lay the groundwork for business expansion.
