Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, stated regarding the Daejeon Bread Festival, "We need to ensure that all bakeries across Daejeon can participate, and we should consider significantly expanding the festival to include the Soje-dong and Daedongcheon areas."
At an expanded executive meeting held on November 4, Mayor Lee said, "We must establish Daejeon as the 'bread capital of Korea' by making this a leading national bread festival," emphasizing these points.
Mayor Lee also instructed officials to thoroughly prepare for citizen safety and key municipal issues, including fire prevention during the upcoming winter season, securing next year's budget, and promoting the tourism industry.
Mayor Lee said, "As temperatures drop, the risk of fires increases. The Fire Department should take the lead in conducting thorough safety inspections of vulnerable facilities such as factories and large buildings, and public awareness campaigns should be strengthened to heighten vigilance in the private sector as well."
During the meeting, strategies for responding to the National Assembly Special Committee on Budget and Accounts were also discussed, as the government budget had been submitted to the National Assembly.
Mayor Lee emphasized, "It is most important to clearly explain the necessity and justification of our key issues to the members of the committee. In particular, systematically work to increase the budget allocation by ensuring that the concerns of the Chungcheong region are well reflected to the committee members from that area."
He also provided detailed guidelines for fostering the tourism industry.
Regarding the Daejeon Garden Expo, Mayor Lee stressed, "We should develop a large-scale expo that connects Hanbat Arboretum to the Gapcheon Ecological Lake Park and along the Gapcheon Trail, covering approximately 8 kilometers, and turn it into Korea's leading garden expo."
With the year-end approaching, he also called for the establishment of strict discipline among public officials.
Mayor Lee said, "As this is a season with many gatherings, I ask all public officials to end the year with integrity and responsibility so that not a single incident such as drunk driving occurs. Through the establishment of strong discipline, we must quickly and accurately deliver results that citizens can truly feel."
