This donation was made as Kim Sungmoon, Chairman of DIC, responded to the 'Together U 2050' development fund campaign, which began recently with President Park's personal contribution.

Chairman Kim Sungmoon donated his personal assets to advance science and technology and foster talent in the Ulsan region, reflecting the company's commitment to fulfilling its social responsibility as a business that has grown alongside the local community.

The donation ceremony was held at the university headquarters. Attendees included Kim Sungmoon, Chairman of DIC, Kim Sungju, Executive Vice President, and other company officials, while UNIST was represented by President Park Jongrae, Vice President for Research Ahn Hyunsil, and other key administrators.

Chairman Kim stated, "For over 50 years, DIC has pursued technological independence and quality innovation in the field of automotive power transmission systems," adding, "Now, artificial intelligence is the new competitive edge in manufacturing." He emphasized, "By collaborating with UNIST, we will develop the AI-based autonomous multi-purpose agricultural vehicle 'TERRIAN' and contribute to solving on-site challenges through AI and smart manufacturing."

UNIST is also expanding its foundation for mutual growth by nurturing future technology talent in partnership with local companies. Last month, President Park Jongrae initiated a donation relay by contributing 100 million won of his personal assets as seed money. With Chairman Kim Sungmoon's participation, the initiative is expected to further strengthen the regional industrial ecosystem and the educational and research infrastructure.

President Park Jongrae commented, "This donation will serve as a foundation for close cooperation between local industries and the university." He added, "We are grateful for your participation in supporting the advancement of science and technology and talent development in Ulsan. The funds will be used to foster a 'pioneer ecosystem' where students take on challenges, rise again, and build innovative companies that surprise the world."

Amid this atmosphere of giving, UNIST will open its official souvenir shop, 'Unique Store,' on the first floor of the Academic Information Center on November 7. The shop will offer more than 80 types of merchandise, including the university mascot 'Yuni' plush dolls, stationery, and household goods. Proceeds will be used to improve the educational and research environment, such as scholarships, research funds, and welfare facilities.

Notably, the designs will incorporate Ulsan's symbols, such as petroglyphs and whales. Products developed in collaboration with local companies will also be launched, with part of the proceeds reinvested in supporting youth entrepreneurship and local public interest initiatives.

Founded in 1976, DIC is a specialized manufacturer of automotive and heavy equipment drivetrains headquartered in Dudong-myeon, Ulju-gun, Ulsan. DIC designs and manufactures key drivetrain components for automobiles and heavy equipment, such as gears, shafts, and reducers, and has grown based on its long-accumulated precision machining technology and quality management capabilities.

Recently, DIC has expanded its business into core parts for future vehicles, such as electrified drivetrains and EV reducers, in line with the growing electric vehicle market. The company is also continuously strengthening its investments in smart manufacturing and automation facilities to enhance its competitiveness in the global market.
