[Polpol News] President Lee's Approval Rating Rebounds to 53% After Three Weeks

Realmeter: 51.2% to 53.0%, up 1.8 percentage points
Tariff Deal and KOSPI 4000 Rally Drive Gains
Democratic Party at 45.4%, People Power Party at 37.9%

President Lee Jaemyung's approval rating for state affairs rebounded after three weeks, following the conclusion of the Korea-US tariff negotiations and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit.


According to a public opinion poll released on November 3 by polling agency Realmeter (commissioned by Energy Economy News, conducted from October 27 to 31 among 2,517 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide via wireless telephone automated response; the margin of error is ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, with a response rate of 5.1%), President Lee's approval rating for state affairs rose by 1.8 percentage points, from 51.2% to 53.0%. After recording 53.5% in the first week of October, President Lee's approval rating had shown a slight downward trend, but the atmosphere has now reversed. The negative assessment regarding President Lee's performance in state affairs was 43.3%, down 1.6 percentage points from last week's survey.

Realmeter analyzed, "The main drivers of the increase in approval appear to be the achievements of 'pragmatic diplomacy,' such as the successful conclusion of tariff negotiations at the Korea-US summit centered around the APEC 2025 summit, as well as positive economic indicators including the KOSPI surpassing 4,000 points and a 1.2% growth in gross domestic product (GDP) in the third quarter."


In a separate public opinion poll on party support (commissioned by Energy Economy News, conducted from October 30 to 31 among 1,004 men and women aged 18 and over nationwide via wireless telephone automated response; the margin of error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, with a response rate of 4.1%), the ruling Democratic Party of Korea also rebounded after three weeks. The Democratic Party's approval rating rose by 1.3 percentage points from the previous week, reaching 45.4%. The People Power Party recorded 37.9%, up 0.6 percentage points. The Reform New Party and the Cho Kuk Innovation Party were polled at 2.8% and 1.8%, respectively.
