The Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Music Orchestra will hold the "Young Gugak" concert, an evening of Pungnyu Madang Concerto, at the main hall of the Gugak Center on November 6 at 7:30 p.m.

The orchestra provides next-generation performers who will lead the Korean traditional music scene with opportunities to collaborate with the orchestra, discovers and nurtures promising talents, and expands the base of traditional music by selecting soloists through annual auditions.

For the 2025 concerto audition, a total of 38 individuals (or teams) applied, and after a fair review, 6 individuals (or teams) were selected. This year's featured performers are gayageum player Jo Yoonju, daegeum player Chae Eunseo, taepiri player Kim Byeongcheol, haegeum player Park Chaerin, ajaeng player Lee Minkyeong, and percussionists Kim Seohui, Lee Surim, Kim Junseo, and Jo Yeo-jin. Together with the orchestra, they are expected to present a colorful and vibrant stage.

The program for this concert begins with the Korean traditional orchestra piece "Awakened Grassland," followed by the taepiri concerto "Jajeun," which is based on the lively Jajinmori rhythm and features a rich range and attractive tone. Also included are "Dodeuri for Autumn," a haegeum concerto depicting the transition from the vibrant light of summer to the cold darkness, and "Anatolia, Wind Blowing on the Plateau," a 25-string gayageum concerto for Korean traditional orchestra inspired by a photo capturing the landscape of Anatolia, T?rkiye.

The concert continues with "Revival," a daegeum sanjo concerto in the style of Kim Dongjin, composed with the hope that the clear sound of the daegeum will resonate higher and farther. "Sinmaji Gut," for ajaeng and Korean traditional orchestra, depicts the shaman’s image through various melodies and timbres of the large and small ajaeng, and the performance concludes with "Shower," an orchestral piece that intricately portrays the vitality of nature, inspired by a rainy landscape.

The "Young Gugak" concert, created by passionate young artists, will be conducted by Lee Yongtak, Artistic Director of the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province Korean Traditional Orchestra, who seeks new possibilities for Korean traditional music through creative interpretation.
