They expressed keen interest in Pohang's transformation from a steel industry hub to a city embracing green growth.
The delegation included more than 30 representatives from international organizations and major foundations, such as Zhu Xi Shuji, Deputy Secretary-General of the Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS); Kiatchai Maitriwong, Senator of Thailand; Takashi Hongo, Board Member of the International Emissions Trading Association (IETA); Subathirai Sivakumaran, Director of Development Finance at UN ESCAP; Eytan Lenko, CEO of Boundless Foundation; and Sonia Medina, Executive Director of Ecosystem Strategy at CIFF.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "Pohang has long grown on the foundation of the steel industry, but now it is moving toward carbon neutrality and green growth. Through the inaugural World Green Growth Forum (WGGF) held in Pohang this year, the city is rising as a leader in the global agenda of green growth."
Mayor Lee added, "This visit will serve as a meaningful opportunity for Pohang, which is promoting green urban regeneration through the development of new growth industries such as secondary batteries and hydrogen, the Greenway Project, and ecological stream restoration, to work together with countries around the world to address the climate crisis and build a sustainable future. We will strengthen cooperation with international partners and share Pohang's green growth experience globally," he said in his welcome remarks.
Pohang City plans to use this visit as an opportunity to further strengthen its cooperation network with international organizations such as GGGI, TCS, IETA, and CIFF, and has proposed hosting future general assemblies and forums of these organizations in Pohang.
In particular, the city aims to accelerate its transition from an industrial city to a leading city in green growth by hosting large-scale international events such as the World Green Growth Forum in 2026 and the ICLEI World Congress in 2027, positioning Pohang as a global hub for climate change cooperation.
