The Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area in Sichuan Province has seen a steady increase in tourism demand this year, recording a cumulative total of 6,028,000 visitors as of October 24. This figure represents a 24.13% increase compared to the same period last year and marks the highest number in over 40 years since the area opened to the public.
Domestic Chinese tourists accounted for 93.81% of all visitors this year. The main regions of origin were Sichuan, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shandong, Henan, and Zhejiang. By segment, there were 1,346,000 Chinese group tourists (23.80%), 2,074,100 Chinese individual tourists (36.68%), and 2,234,900 visitors who entered through online travel agency (OTA) platforms (39.52%), indicating a balanced expansion of both package and independent travel demand, as well as online bookings.
The number of foreign tourists also increased rapidly. According to big data analysis, as of October 24, the number of foreign visitors reached 373,000, a 45.60% rise compared to the same period last year. Visitors from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan totaled 113,200, up 22.60%. The top five countries by visitor numbers were Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea, and Singapore. While demand from Southeast Asia was particularly notable, demand from South Korea also remained among the highest.
Jiuzhaigou authorities have implemented measures such as expanding multilingual guides, popularizing cashless payments, and enhancing the online reservation system to reduce inconveniences for overseas visitors related to language, payment, and ticket purchases. In addition, by combining smart management, cultural experience programs, and international cooperation, the site has reduced on-site waiting times and information gaps, resulting in higher visitor satisfaction.
