In addition, considering the importance of deep tech startups in the industrial sector, it has been designated as an official side event of the "APEC Leaders' Week," which will be held in Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, until November 2.
Now in its third year, the conference is being held under the theme "AX for ALL (AI Transformation for Everyone)." The opening ceremony on October 28 began with a tour of the deep tech startup technology exhibition attended by more than 300 participants, including Hansung Sook, Minister of SMEs and Startups, and representatives of domestic and international deep tech startups. This was followed by a keynote speech by Jared Quincy Davis, CEO of Mithril AI from the United States, and a panel discussion.
The first day featured a presentation and panel discussion by Hwangbo Jemin, a professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), on "A Virtuous Cycle Ecosystem for the Robotics Industry Opened by the Convergence of Humanoids and AI." Over the course of the event, the technology forum will be held in 13 sessions across 10 key supergap fields.
The special sessions are designed as programs where both deep tech startups and the general public can gain information. On the first day, five elite teams involved in the K-AI proprietary foundation model participated to present on the "Goals, Current Status, and Future Plans for Developing Proprietary AI Foundation Models," and discussed ways to collaborate with AI startups.
Embassies from seven countries, including APEC member states, will introduce and exchange information on their respective "Global Inbound Startup Support Programs." Five special sessions will be held over the two days, including investment attraction programs in cooperation with organizations such as the Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia.
Other side events are composed of eight programs, including open innovation, investment attraction, and networking, all aimed at fostering the growth and global expansion of deep tech startups.
In the AI and robotics sectors, open innovation programs will be operated to facilitate collaboration between major corporations and startups. In the bio and pharmaceutical sectors, partnering sessions will be held with commercial officers from embassies of leading bio-advanced countries such as the United States and Germany to discuss strategies for entering those markets. In addition, investment attraction and initial public offering (IR) sessions will be conducted with bio corporate venture capital (CVC) firms.
Minister Hansung Sook stated, "We will focus on providing a variety of policy support in close cooperation with relevant ministries so that deep tech startups can grow and develop in line with the rapidly changing global market policy environment."
