Gangseo-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jin Kyohoon) will host the 22nd Inclusive Festival for People with Disabilities at Banghwa Neighborhood Park on October 29. This year’s event is expected to bring together around 900 participants, including people with disabilities and those without, to foster mutual understanding and empathy.
The event will open with performances by the disabled percussion group “Bukchigo Janggu Chigo” and the electronic string ensemble “Dione,” followed by a welfare support fund presentation and an opening ceremony. In the afternoon, local disability arts groups such as the dance team “Fox and Bear,” the saxophone ensemble “Ensemble,” and the Deaf dance team “Deaf Orak” will showcase their talents on stage. There will also be a diverse performance by the “Jeans Band,” which includes both people with and without disabilities.
Comedian Lee Dongyeop will host an empathy talk focused on breaking down social prejudices against people with disabilities and building an inclusive society, which is expected to help improve disability awareness in the local community.
Various experience booths will be set up throughout the venue, offering activities such as making perfume, keyrings, and wooden name stamps, traditional games, and massage services by visually impaired practitioners, creating a space for communication and healing. This event, organized by the Gangseo-gu Federation of Disabled Persons Organizations, has been held annually since 2003 and continues to lead the way in expanding social and cultural participation opportunities for people with disabilities and improving public awareness.
Jin Kyohoon, Mayor of Gangseo-gu, stated, “I hope this Inclusive Festival will grow into a culture where people with and without disabilities can communicate and empathize together,” adding, “We will continue to do our best to create a happy Gangseo where everyone can come together.”
