On October 24, the Gwangju City Council appointed the chairman and vice chairman of the Gwangju Transportation Corporation President Personnel Hearing Special Committee (hereinafter referred to as the "Personnel Special Committee") and began full-scale activities.


The Personnel Special Committee appointed Shim Cheol-ui as chairman and Lee Gwi-sun as vice chairman. The committee members include Kim Yongim, Park Pilsun, Lim Miran, Jeong Daeun, and Hong Giwol.


Gwangju Transportation Corporation established the Gwangju Urban Railway Corporation in November 2002 in accordance with the Local Public Enterprises Act, and was relaunched as Gwangju Transportation Corporation in September 2023. It plays a key role in improving the welfare of citizens through urban railway operations, station area development projects, and the construction and operation of community convenience facilities. With approximately 900 employees, it is the largest local public corporation in the region.


Chairman Shim Cheol-ui stated, "Gwangju Transportation Corporation has served as a stepping stone for the development of urban transportation and the region by providing safe and convenient transportation services." He emphasized, "As we prepare for the upcoming era of Urban Railway Line 2, the corporation's role in realizing economical and eco-friendly public transportation is more important than ever." He added, "We will thoroughly verify the qualifications and capabilities of the candidates to ensure that someone with a strong sense of duty and responsibility, who can serve as a catalyst for Gwangju's development, is appointed."


Meanwhile, the Personnel Special Committee plans to request relevant documents and materials related to the personnel hearing once a candidate is nominated, and to conduct the hearing in November.
