Anthropic, a U.S.-based artificial intelligence (AI) company, announced on October 24 that it will establish a Korean office in Gangnam, Seoul early next year. With this move, Korea will become Anthropic's third major hub in the Asia-Pacific region, following India and Japan. Next week, key executives are scheduled to visit Korea to formalize partnerships with local companies.

Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, stated, "Korea is leading AI innovation in Asia, and Claude is already being widely adopted here. We look forward to realizing the limitless potential of AI together with our partners in Korea, which boasts a world-class technology ecosystem and innovative research institutions."

According to Anthropic, Korea ranks among the top five countries globally in terms of Claude usage. Notably, the monthly active users (MAU) of the AI coding assistant 'Claude Code' in Korea have increased sixfold over the past four months. Furthermore, a Korean software engineer is currently recorded as the top user of Claude Code worldwide.

Anthropic plans to build a local support organization through its Korean branch, catering to both startups and large enterprises. The company has already appointed a 'Head of Startups' as its first hire and will continue recruiting key personnel, including the head of the Korean office.

Collaboration with the Korean startup ecosystem is also expanding rapidly. In particular, the 'Claude for Startups' program, which provides API credits and technical resources, has received a strong response in Korea.

Legaltech startup Law&Company was highlighted as a case where the adoption of Claude improved legal workflows and increased lawyer work efficiency by 1.7 times. Among major domestic corporations, SK Telecom has also partnered with Anthropic to develop a multilingual AI customer service model, conducting a project that served more than 10 million people.

Paul Smith, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Anthropic, commented, "Korean companies already possess world-class capabilities in advanced coding and enterprise applications using Claude. Through our Korean office, we will further strengthen our tailored support to meet the specialized needs of both enterprises and startups."
