A large-scale theft of Daebong persimmons awaiting harvest has occurred in Haman, South Gyeongsang Province.
According to the Haman Police Station on October 21, a man in his 60s, identified as Mr. A, who runs a persimmon farm in Gunbuk-myeon, Haman County, reported to the police on October 16 that Daebong persimmons hanging from trees scheduled for harvest next month had disappeared.
The stolen Daebong persimmons amounted to about 300 boxes, each weighing 10 kilograms, with an estimated value of approximately 9 million won.
After the Chuseok holiday, on October 15, Mr. A discovered that all the not-yet-ripe Daebong persimmons had vanished from 120 persimmon trees on his farm, which covers about 3,305 square meters (approximately 1,000 pyeong).
Given that there was almost no damage to the persimmon trees when the fruit was picked, it is presumed that a professional agricultural thief used a vehicle to steal the Daebong persimmons.
It has been reported that Mr. A is in a state of shock after losing his entire year's worth of Daebong persimmon harvest just before it was due to be collected.
The police are tracking the theft suspect based on footage from closed-circuit (CC) TV cameras around the farm.
