Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Koo Yoon-chul announced on the 20th, "On the 28th, we will hold the 'Public Institution AI Grand Transformation Workshop,' where public institutions, the private sector, and academia will come together to share achievements in AI innovation and discuss ways to expand AI adoption in the public sector."
Deputy Prime Minister Koo made this statement at a workshop for heads of research institutes under the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities, and Social Sciences (NRC) in the economic sector, held at the Sejong National Research Complex on the same day. He said, "Public institutions, including national research institutes, have decided to actively participate in the AI grand transformation through measures such as the 'AI Activation Plan' announced on July 30."

원본보기 아이콘This workshop was presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Koo. Under the theme "The Role and Tasks of NRC Research Institutes as National Think Tanks," the event included strategic presentations and open discussions aimed at supporting national policy initiatives.
In his opening remarks, Deputy Prime Minister Koo emphasized, "This is a crucial time when Korea must achieve a major transformation from a catch-up economy to a leading global economy," adding, "The role of NRC research institutes, as national think tanks and partners in the new government's economic growth strategy, is extremely important."
During the presentations by each institute, policy proposals were made on topics such as ▲ the role of supporting national growth strategies including AI and the ultra-innovative economy (Korea Development Institute), ▲ measures to enhance industrial safety for creating safer workplaces (Korea Labor Institute), and ▲ ways to expand youth employment and strengthen welfare, care, and employment safety nets (Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs).
In the subsequent open discussion, policy ideas were presented, including "AI utilization and expansion, strengthening the competitiveness of strategic industries, and promoting ultra-regionalization" (Korea Institute for Industrial Economics and Trade), as well as "the need to enhance the efficiency and sustainability of budget management through the introduction of data-based spending reviews" (Korea Institute of Public Finance).
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed his expectation that groundbreaking models utilizing AI could be developed in various fields such as industrial safety, job matching, and forecasting employment demand and supply. He also expressed hope that excellent case studies would emerge from collaborative projects and joint efforts among public institutions, including NRC research institutes.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated, "Collaboration among research institutes is important in addressing issues such as climate change, low birth rates and population aging, and reducing social disparities," adding, "Providing answers to national agendas can ultimately lead to strengthening national competitiveness." He then urged, "Please make every effort in this regard."
