Koo Yoonchul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, and Bae Kyunghoon, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT, held a meeting at the Government Seoul Office on the morning of the 20th. This was the first meeting between the two deputy prime ministers since the Ministry of Science and ICT was elevated to a deputy prime ministerial department.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Koo stated, "There is a close relationship between the economy, industry, and science and technology. Considering the significant impact of AI-one of the key agendas in this administration's economic growth strategy-on the economy and industry, it is necessary to take a comprehensive approach in economic policy direction and to strengthen a whole-of-government response."
Deputy Prime Minister Bae emphasized, "In order to implement the new government's national direction of innovating the economic society and securing new growth engines through advanced science and technology such as AI, it is more important than ever for the two deputy prime ministerial bodies to collaborate closely and pool their capabilities. Let us work as one team and respond quickly to pressing issues, such as achieving safe AI and digitalization."
Concluding the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Koo and Deputy Prime Minister Bae agreed to actively communicate and cooperate going forward, in order to enhance policy synergy for the AI-driven transformation and the transition to a super-innovation economy, and to support the recovery of South Korea's potential growth rate.
