Boseong County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Kim Cheolwoo) announced on the 20th that it will host the '2025 Boseong National Heritage Night Tour' across the Boseong-eup area from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. for two days, October 24 and 25.
Boseong is historically significant as the place where Admiral Yi Sun-sin secured military provisions to rebuild the naval forces during the Imjin War, and it is the backdrop for his famous report, "I still have twelve warships left."
Additionally, at Ochungsa Shrine, the memorial tablet of General Sun Geo-yi, a military leader from Boseong, is enshrined. Boseong Hyanggyo is also known as the site of the 'Jeju Shipwreck Incident,' which sparked the spirit of resistance against Japanese colonial rule.
This year's 'National Heritage Night Tour' will unfold as a historical and cultural festival under the theme "Shouting for Hope at the Edge of Joseon!" It will reinterpret Boseong's historical narrative through light, art, and interactive experiences.
The 2025 night tour consists of 16 programs across 8 categories. Highlights include 'Night Scenery,' which showcases new charms of cultural heritage through media art and lighting; 'Night Road,' where historical figures offer guided tours; 'Night Story,' featuring tales of Admiral Yi Sun-sin and General Sun Geo-yi; the youth-led flea market 'Carrot Market 1597'; 'Night Food,' offering local cuisine; and 'Night Stay,' a Boseong tea meditation program.
In particular, the signature interactive program 'Secure the Provisions' is inspired by the historical event in which Boseong's Deukryang-myeon gathered rice to rebuild the naval forces during the Imjin War. This participatory history program invites visitors to collect rice at experience booths and donate it to the 'Joyangchang' (military grain warehouse), receiving a certificate in return. It symbolically revives the spirit of communal sharing, known as 'Sip-si-il-ban,' in today's culture of giving.
During the event, the areas around Yeolseonru Pavilion, Ochungsa Shrine, Boseong Hyanggyo, and Chunwoonsoeok in Boseong-eup will be transformed into a 'Street of Light' with media art illuminations. The tranquil hanok houses and stone walls will come alive under gentle lighting, offering visitors an evocative historical journey amid the autumn night atmosphere.
