Doosan Construction and Hyundai L&C Develop High-Performance Low-Noise Hardwood Flooring for Noise Reduction

Up to 2 dB Reduction in Heavy Impact Noise
Noise Reduction Achievable by Simply Replacing Flooring

Doosan Construction announced on October 20 that, in collaboration with Hyundai L&C, a comprehensive building materials company, it has developed the nation's first 'High-Performance Low-Noise Hardwood Flooring' with noise reduction capabilities.

This product has been certified by the Korea Conformity Laboratories (KCL) to reduce heavy impact noise by up to 2 dB.

The newly developed flooring is drawing attention as an alternative solution to reinforcement methods for multi-family housing that falls short of inter-floor noise standards.

Previously, when noise standards were not met, complex construction processes such as ceiling reinforcement or complete floor removal were required. With this new development, noise reduction can now be achieved simply by replacing the flooring, eliminating the need for complicated reinforcement procedures. This simplifies installation, enhances cost-effectiveness, and helps prevent construction delays.

Doosan Construction and Hyundai L&C signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint research on floor finishing materials to improve inter-floor noise in May and have since been conducting joint research and development.

The two companies plan to pursue certification for the 'floor impact noise blocking structure performance' of this technology. After commercialization, they intend to accelerate business development through supply contracts and cooperation to promote the technology.

Doosan Construction stated, "We are developing a high-precision, easy-to-use inter-floor noise measurement system based on artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). We will continue to develop products that solve everyday problems and enhance customer satisfaction."
