Yeongyang County Selected for Ministry of Agriculture’s Rural Spatial Improvement Project Competition

Improving Residential Environments in Wildfire-Affected Areas Expected

Yeongyang County in North Gyeongsang Province has secured a total project budget of 15 billion won after the Seokbo and Ibam districts were finally selected in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ “2025 Rural Spatial Improvement Project” competition.

The “Rural Spatial Improvement Project” is designed to revitalize rural areas and restore their functions by supporting the removal of hazardous facilities and improving residential environments based on rural spatial planning.

This initiative aims to restore and rebuild the living infrastructure of areas in Yeongyang County that suffered severe damage from the wildfire in North Gyeongsang Province in March, which resulted in the complete destruction of homes, as well as damage to agricultural facilities, machinery, and crops.

In particular, the project focuses on improving the unstable housing conditions of wildfire victims currently living in temporary modular homes and ensuring their long-term residential stability.

Through this project, the county plans to demolish closed schools and long-abandoned facilities, and to establish rental rural homes and agricultural machinery repair centers. This will provide stable housing for wildfire victims and support the recovery of daily life and community functions by expanding agricultural infrastructure.

Additionally, the county will create spaces for resident interaction and healing, supporting both psychological recovery and the return to everyday life.

This marks the second time Yeongyang County has been selected for this competition since the “Yeongyang-eup Eastern District” was chosen in 2022, demonstrating the county’s ongoing capacity for rural spatial regeneration.

County Governor Oh Dochang stated, “This selection is a valuable achievement made possible by the joint efforts of residents and the administration, and it will bring new hope to wildfire-affected areas.” He added, “We will focus our administrative capabilities to ensure that wildfire victims can live stably.”
