The police have summoned a representative from the Seomin Livelihood Countermeasures Committee (Seominwi), a civic group that filed a defamation complaint against a ruling party lawmaker who raised suspicions about the meeting between Cho Hee-dae and Han Duck-soo, for questioning.
The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency called in Kim Sunhwan, Secretary General of Seominwi, to the Mapo office at around 10 a.m. on October 14 to investigate the circumstances behind the complaint.
Previously, Secretary General Kim filed a police complaint against Democratic Party lawmakers Boo Seungchan and Seo Youngkyo, accusing them of violating the Public Official Election Act (dissemination of false information), defamation, and abuse of authority.
Lawmakers Boo and Seo, among others, had raised suspicions that, following the Constitutional Court’s impeachment ruling against former President Yoon Suk-yeol, Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae met with former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and discussed matters related to President Lee Jaemyung’s election law case.
Before the investigation, Secretary General Kim told reporters, “We condemn the ongoing situation where the judiciary is shaken by remarks based on unverified recordings,” adding, “If necessary, we will file additional complaints, so the police must conduct a thorough investigation.”
