College Admissions Counseling Open 24 Hours Even During Chuseok Holiday

Even during the Chuseok holiday, which falls about a month before the college entrance exam, the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education is operating a 24-hour college admissions counseling system. The online platform "Bitgoeul Jinhak Kumtree" serves as the main channel to support students and parents with their admissions concerns.

The Office of Education offers a range of customized career guidance services for students, including online counseling, intensive early admissions counseling (July-August), intensive regular admissions counseling (December), Saturday college admissions counseling, counseling in cooperation with local districts, and on-site counseling visits to childcare facilities for socially disadvantaged children.

Additionally, for the first time in the country, the office has trained a "college admissions director" for each high school, enabling students to receive counseling within their own schools. These directors also collaborate by region to provide "on-site college admissions consulting" at schools.

Since 2017, the online counseling platform "Bitgoeul Jinhak Kumtree" has been in operation, allowing real-time counseling even on weekends and at night. The platform also provides information on study methods, admissions briefings, and interview materials. If a more detailed response is needed, another counseling teacher supplements the answer with additional comments.

The number of counseling sessions through Kumtree increased from 1,243 in 2017 to 3,856 last year. As of September this year, 3,393 sessions have already taken place. The Office of Education has expanded the number of counseling teachers from 15 to 40 and is working to strengthen their capabilities through briefings and training sessions. The counseling system will also remain operational during the Chuseok holiday.

A parent of a high school senior said, "With 'Kumtree,' it was convenient to receive counseling anytime and anywhere. They explained everything in detail and even helped with career planning."
