On October 2, the Gwangju City Council held a traditional market shopping event to promote consumption at traditional markets and revitalize the local economy in celebration of Chuseok, Korea's largest holiday. Chairperson Shin Sujeong and around 20 staff members from the council's secretariat visited Malbau Market in Buk-gu, where they purchased ritual goods and other items, joining efforts to support traditional markets. Chairperson Shin stated, "I hope this shopping event can provide some encouragement to merchants who are struggling due to the economic downturn and reduced consumer spending." Meanwhile, ahead of Chuseok, the city council is continuing traditional market shopping events by department, actively taking the lead in promoting the use of Onnuri gift certificates and local currency, as well as encouraging the use of traditional markets.
