President Lee to Meet OpenAI's Sam Altman Today... Expected to Request AI Cooperation

On the afternoon of October 1, President Lee Jaemyung will meet with Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, at the presidential office in Yongsan.
According to the presidential office, during the meeting, President Lee is expected to introduce the government's artificial intelligence (AI) development policies and request cooperation with Korean AI-related companies as well as investment in the AI industry.
President Lee has been actively working to foster the AI industry and attract investment, with the goal of making Korea one of the world's top three AI powerhouses. During his visit to New York for the United Nations General Assembly, he met with Larry Fink, CEO of BlackRock-the world's largest asset management firm with $12.5 trillion in assets under management-and signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU). At that meeting, Chairman Fink proposed making Korea the "AI capital" of the Asia-Pacific region.
OpenAI has also recently launched its Korean branch, OpenAI Korea, and is working on ways to connect its AI ecosystem with Kakao. The company is also seeking collaboration with Samsung Electronics, SK, and others in the fields of semiconductors and hardware.
