On September 29, Gwangju Bukbu Police Station announced that arrest warrants had been requested for two individuals, a couple in their 40s, on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act by purchasing and using drugs via social media. According to the police, in April, the couple purchased 2 grams of methamphetamine via social media using the "throwing method." This method involves hiding drugs in a specific location for the buyer to retrieve later.

Investigations revealed that the couple administered the methamphetamine by injection or inhaled it after diluting it in water. The police conducted a month-long undercover operation to apprehend the couple, and dozens of used and unused syringes were found at their residence.

Both individuals tested positive in a preliminary drug test and admitted to using methamphetamine during police questioning. The police are investigating the circumstances of the case and are also tracking the suppliers and those higher up in the distribution chain. Gwangju Bukbu Police Station is operating a dedicated team to respond to the rise in drug-related crimes.
