In the appointments of Commissioner General and Senior Superintendent General positions announced by the government on September 25, police executives from North Gyeongsang Province were appointed to key posts.
With this personnel reshuffle, Kim Seonghee, Chief of the South Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency, was appointed as Acting President of the Korean National Police University. Born in Cheongdo, North Gyeongsang Province in 1970, Chief Kim graduated from Mogae High School in Cheongdo and the Korean National Police University (9th class), and was commissioned as a lieutenant in 1993. He has since served as Chief of Mungyeong Police Station, Head of the Autonomous Police Division at the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency, and Spokesperson for the National Police Agency, earning a reputation within the organization as a leading "planning expert."
In addition, in the Senior Superintendent General appointments, Kim Byungwoo, Director of Human Resources Planning at the National Police Agency, was transferred to serve as Chief of the Daegu Police Agency. A native of Andong, Chief Kim graduated from Gyeongil High School in Andong and the Korean National Police University (8th class), and was commissioned as a lieutenant in 1992. He is considered a veteran, having served as Chief of Andong Police Station, Director of Traffic Operations at the National Police Agency, Head of Public Safety at the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency, and Chief of the South Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency.
In addition to these appointments, Park Jeongbo, Director of the Police Human Resources Development Institute, was named Chief of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency; Eom Seonggyu, Chief of the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency, was appointed Acting Chief of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency; Han Changhun, Director of the Public Safety and Traffic Bureau at the National Police Agency, was appointed Chief of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency; and Hwang Changseon, Chief of the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency, was named Chief of the Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency.
Meanwhile, Oh Bumyeong, Chief of the North Gyeongsang Provincial Police Agency, will remain in his post to minimize any security gaps ahead of the APEC Summit (scheduled for October in Gyeongju). The newly appointed Commissioner Generals and Senior Superintendent Generals will complete their departure ceremonies on the 26th and begin their official duties in their new positions starting on the 29th.
