Kim Minjae, Vice Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, explained at a briefing held at the Seoul Government Complex on the 27th, "Due to the impact of the fire, the air conditioning and humidity control system did not function properly, raising concerns about a rapid increase in server temperature. To safely preserve the information systems, we proactively shut them down."

Vice Minister Kim stated, "We are currently prioritizing the restoration of the air conditioning and humidity control system, and after that, we plan to restart the servers and proceed with recovery measures. We will swiftly restore major government services with significant public impact, such as Korea Post financial and postal services, as a priority."

The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has instructed relevant agencies to extend deadlines for tax payments and document submissions that fall due before the systems are normalized, so that they can be processed after restoration.

Vice Minister Kim explained that the fire occurred in one battery of the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) for the NIRS, during work to relocate the UPS batteries to the basement, and that the battery where the fire started had already been disconnected from power.
