Gangwon Civil Servants' Friendship Marathon Debuts Successfully... Next Event to Be Held in Pyeongchang

Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin Tae) announced that it successfully held the "2025 1st Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Public Officials Friendly Marathon" on the 26th at the Goguma Island area in Chuncheon City, with about 200 participants including provincial and city-county public officials.

This marathon featured a 5-kilometer relay course, starting from Goguma Island in Chuncheon, following the banks of Soyang Lake, and turning back at the front of Soyang 2 Bridge, with teams of five runners taking turns.

At the opening ceremony, Kim Jin Tae, Governor of Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, and Choi Yong Soo, President of the Provincial Athletics Federation, attended to encourage the participants.

Kim Sun Ha, President of the Provincial Marathon Federation, stated in his opening address, "The marathon population in Korea has surpassed 10 million, reflecting its great popularity," adding, "The Provincial Government Marathon Club has devoted significant effort to prepare this first event to promote marathon activities in the province and foster unity among provincial and city-county public officials."

In his congratulatory remarks, Governor Kim said, "I also recently participated in a marathon with my pet dog," and expressed, "I find it meaningful that this event, held for the first time this year, has finally begun."

He continued, "I hope this marathon will be held annually in the future, and since teamwork is essential in today's relay race, I encourage everyone to cooperate and build unity."

As for the results, the Samcheok City Marathon Club (President Shin Yoon Cheol) took first place, the Gangwon Provincial Government Marathon Club (President Kim Sun Ha) was the runner-up, and the Wonju City Marathon Club (President Park Soon Cheol) finished third. Next year's second marathon event is scheduled to be held in Pyeongchang.
