This awards ceremony was hosted by Local Government News and organized by the Korea Legislative Awards and Local Autonomy Administration Awards Organizing Committee. It recognizes and awards National Assembly members and heads of local governments who have devoted themselves to public welfare and regional development.

Mayor Joo Kwangdeok was honored with the award in recognition of the outstanding results achieved through balanced development policies and field-oriented administration across transportation, urban development, and government operations since the launch of the 8th popularly elected administration.

Namyangju City has declared 2025 as the inaugural year for a major transformation of its industrial ecosystem and is pursuing various projects to strengthen the city’s self-sufficiency.

Efforts such as securing 1.2 million square meters for the Wangsuk Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex and attracting investment from promising companies, expanding the metropolitan transportation network, promoting public development projects including Wangsuk New Town, enhancing cultural and welfare infrastructure, and implementing field-oriented administration closely connected to daily life have all been highly evaluated.

In addition, the city recently carried out an administrative enforcement project to demolish unauthorized buildings in the Buleamsan Mountain area, returning the natural environment to citizens. This measure aims to correct illegal occupation of public natural spaces and restore them as open areas that all citizens can enjoy comfortably. The city plans to continue strong, principle-based field administration focused on the public interest.

Mayor Joo Kwangdeok stated, "This award is the result of working together with our 740,000 citizens," and added, "Namyangju is moving toward becoming a mega-city with a population of one million, and we will focus our administrative capabilities to help the city leap forward as a future-oriented self-sufficient city."

He continued, "I will do my utmost to carefully look after the lives of each and every citizen and to make living in Namyangju a source of pride."
