The Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jongshik) announced on September 23 that it will recruit and assign 53 additional Neulbom Support Office Directors (fixed-term educational researchers), who will serve as dedicated staff for Neulbom Schools in 2026.
Currently, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education operates Neulbom Schools in 465 elementary schools and 8 special schools in the province. To ensure stable implementation, each school is equipped with a Neulbom Support Office. So far, 110 Neulbom Support Office Directors, 53 temporary teachers outside the regular staffing quota, and one Neulbom administrative staff member per school have been assigned to help reduce teachers' workload.
The 53 new staff members to be recruited and assigned in 2026 will be selected as fixed-term educational researchers, replacing the current temporary teachers outside the regular quota. For a two-year term, they will oversee all aspects of Neulbom School operations, including education and care, instructor recruitment, budget allocation, and handling civil complaints.
The selection process for Neulbom Support Office Directors (fixed-term educational researchers) consists of a first round (document screening) and a second round (basic competency and aptitude assessment), after which the final candidates will be confirmed. They are scheduled to be assigned to public elementary schools in the province as of March 1, 2026. The related public recruitment plan will be announced separately at the end of September.
According to a satisfaction survey on the Neulbom Support Office Director system conducted in June, the overall average satisfaction rate was 83.8%, and 89.4% of respondents said the system had a "positive impact on the school field." Respondents noted, "The assignment of Neulbom Support Office Directors has ensured systematic and stable operations, and significantly reduced teachers' workload."
In a separate satisfaction survey conducted in May targeting parents and students, more than 89% expressed satisfaction with the operation of Neulbom Schools. This demonstrates that Neulbom Schools are achieving tangible results both in the field and at home.
Since July, the Gyeongbuk Office of Education has been actively supporting the field by operating an artificial intelligence (AI)-based "Gyeongbuk-style Neulbom School Chatbot" service to help establish Neulbom Schools and reduce the workload of frontline staff.
Lim Jongshik, Superintendent of the Gyeongbuk Office of Education, stated, "By selecting Neulbom Support Office Directors with expertise through transparent and fair procedures, we will actively support Neulbom Schools so that they can become more systematic and stable."
