Ulsan is establishing itself as a leading city in South Korea in the field of Urban Air Mobility (UAM).
On September 22 at 10 a.m., the city will hold a briefing session on the "Comprehensive Plan (Master Plan) for Fostering the Urban Air Mobility (UAM) Industry and the Design Service for the Integrated Demonstration Site" in the main conference room on the 4th floor of City Hall.
This briefing session has been organized to establish a comprehensive plan (master plan) for fostering the UAM industry, following Ulsan's final selection as the integrated demonstration site for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's "Korean Urban Air Mobility (K-UAM) National R&D Project."
The meeting will be attended by about 20 participants, including Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Ahn Hyodae, officials from Ulsan City, Ulsan Information Industry Promotion Agency, representatives from the service provider, and external experts. The agenda includes an interim report on the development of the comprehensive plan (master plan), a final report on the completion of the integrated demonstration site design, a Q&A session, and expert consultations.
Through this meeting, Ulsan plans to finalize a comprehensive plan (master plan) by the end of the year, incorporating expert advice on Ulsan-style Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) development strategies and operational concepts.
Based on this, the city aims to establish an industrial ecosystem and solidify its position as a leading city in urban air mobility by linking it with the "Core Technology Development Project for Safe Operation Systems of Urban Air Mobility," which has been underway since last year.
An official from Ulsan City stated, "We will transform from an industrial capital into a 'skyway transportation innovation city,' preemptively securing the future mobility market and providing citizens with innovative transportation experiences."
With Ulsan's recent selection for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Korean Urban Air Mobility (K-UAM) National R&D Project, an integrated demonstration site will be established on an 80,000-square-meter site in Gilcheon, Ulju County.
Construction will begin in November this year, and by December 2026, the site will feature not only a hangar and control center but also a two-story vertical hangar-type vertiport (takeoff and landing site) capable of fully automated takeoff and landing.
Based on this foundation, Ulsan plans to develop and verify core technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI)-based navigation and traffic management, as well as safety certification.
