The Democratic Party of Korea traces its origins to the Democratic Party founded by Shin Ikhee on September 18, 1955, in opposition to former President Syngman Rhee's 4·5 Amendment, with anti-dictatorship at the forefront. Since then, the Democratic Party has experienced the twists and turns of Korean political history, undergoing splits and realignments under the banners of anti-dictatorship and democratization, evolving through the New Democratic Party, Peace Democratic Party, National Congress for New Politics, Millennium Democratic Party, Uri Party, United Democratic Party, and New Politics Alliance for Democracy, before adopting its current name, the Democratic Party of Korea. The anniversary ceremony was attended by the party leadership, Chairman Kwon, Song Chunhan, co-chairman of the 70th Anniversary Party Foundation Promotion Committee, former National Assembly Speakers Kim Wonki, Lim Chaejung, Moon Heesang, Kim Jinpyo, and former party leader Lee Haechan, among others.
