"Protecting Gyeongnam" Anti-Terrorism Drill Held in Changwon Ahead of APEC Summit

Over 150 Participants from Police, National Intelligence Service, Military, Fire Authorities, and Corporations

With about 40 days remaining until the 2025 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit, an anti-terrorism drill was conducted in Changwon, Gyeongnam.

The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 17th that a comprehensive anti-terrorism drill involving related agencies was held at Doosan Enerbility in Changwon in preparation for the 2025 APEC Summit.


Around 1:30 p.m. that day, three scenarios unfolded at Doosan Enerbility: a drone-based explosive and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) terrorist attack, a hostage situation, and a car bomb attack.

Military, police, fire authorities, and corporate personnel demonstrated various counter-terrorism tactics, including drone neutralization, explosive detection and removal, fast-roping from helicopters, drone search maneuvers, CBRN source detection and decontamination, and police dog-assisted subduing of terrorists.


The drill also assessed the ability to respond to complex and sophisticated terrorist threats.

More than 150 personnel from six organizations and companies participated in the drill, including the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, the local branch of the National Intelligence Service, the Army's 39th Division, the Gyeongnam Fire Headquarters, the Naval Special Warfare Flotilla, and Doosan Enerbility.


Kim Sunghee, Commissioner of the Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency, stated, "This drill served as an opportunity to assess the counter-terrorism capabilities of related agencies, strengthen inter-agency cooperation, and enhance our ability to respond to terrorist threats. We will thoroughly prepare for the APEC Summit at the end of October and do our utmost to ensure Gyeongnam remains safe from terrorism."
