CodeTree's Coding Competency Assessment Exam 'COEIC' Officially Approved as a Private Qualification 원본보기 아이콘

CodeTree, a global coding learning platform led by CEO Lee Seungyong and operated by Branch and Bound, has received official approval from the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training for the private qualification registration of its coding competency assessment exam, COEIC (Coding Evaluation of Informatics Competency), as a Computing Thinking Competency Certification Exam. With this registration, COEIC is now officially recognized as a private qualification exam.

Launched in August last year, COEIC was developed to establish a certification system that objectively assesses coding skills. Rather than simply testing grammar, it is designed to evaluate algorithmic problem-solving abilities and diagnose learners' computational thinking competency.

The most significant advantage of COEIC is that it is the first in Korea to introduce an adaptive online coding competency exam format (CAT, Computerized Adaptive Test). This method comprehensively analyzes a candidate's problem-solving speed, accuracy, and code submission patterns to adjust the difficulty of subsequent questions in real time. As a result, candidates from different educational backgrounds can be compared using the same standards, and it has become a standardized metric that objectively measures individual competency levels rather than just providing simple scores.

The exam focuses on solving text-based coding algorithm problems, with questions covering practical areas such as algorithm implementation, data structure design, efficient code writing and maintenance, and system design. The questions are crafted by a specialized team that includes International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) medalists and members responsible for creating and reviewing Korea Olympiad in Informatics (KOI) problems, ensuring international-level difficulty and reliability.

COEIC assigns certification levels from 1 to the highest level of 6 based on scores. The exam is conducted online in a practical format, and candidates can check their scores and certification levels within one hour of completion, allowing job seekers and learners to quickly and clearly assess their current standing and progress.

Within just one year of its launch, COEIC has been administered more than 100 times at domestic and international companies and universities, with over 3,000 cumulative test-takers, establishing itself as a standardized coding assessment tool recognized by both academia and industry. In educational settings, it is used for graduation exams, course registration criteria, and regular diagnostic tests, with some cases replacing midterm and final exams. Companies also regard it as a reliable metric not only for coding tests in recruitment but also for new employee training and competency assessment of current staff in various HR management situations.

A CodeTree representative stated, "In the era of AI, talent with fundamental coding skills who can effectively utilize AI and solve problems will become a key competitive advantage. COEIC provides an opportunity to assess skills in a structure similar to coding tests and will establish itself as a reliable evaluation tool for companies to objectively determine practical suitability."

Meanwhile, CodeTree is a global coding education platform renowned for its systematic curriculum, often referred to as the "Standard of Coding." Its AI analyzes learners' coding processes down to the second to deliver personalized content, and expert explanations help learners improve their skills. Additionally, COEIC has enabled the creation of a virtuous cycle between learning and assessment.
