The Donghae Culture and Tourism Foundation (Chairman Shim Kyueon) will host the 38th Donghae Mureung Festival for four days from September 18 to 21 at Donghae Wellbeing Leisure Sports Town and Donghae Culture and Arts Center.
The Mureung Festival has established itself as Donghae City's representative cultural tourism festival. This year, the festival aims to further broaden its significance by creating a venue for unity across all generations, where citizens and tourists come together in harmony.
The 38th Donghae Mureung Festival, under the theme "Donghae United, Resonance of Hope," aspires to spread waves of hope throughout Donghae City through the laughter and cheers resonating from the festival. The event is designed to showcase a city where everyone comes together as one, transcending generational, social, and regional boundaries.
The main programs feature a diverse array of events encompassing both tradition and modernity. The festival will begin with a commemorative ceremony to reflect on its meaning, followed by a performance from an art troupe from Liaoning Province, China, offering citizens and tourists a unique experience. Before the opening ceremony, a grand drum performance utilizing media art will herald the start of the festival and elevate the festive atmosphere. Subsequently, the opening ceremony and performance, a generational harmony concert, and the Donghae Song Festival will provide stages that span generations and genres, ensuring enjoyment for people of all ages.
The opening performance will feature popular domestic singers such as Jang Yoonjeong, DinDin, Noel, Kim Yuseon, and Yoo Jiwoo, who will grace the stage and mark a spectacular start to the festival. The finale will dazzle the night sky with a laser show and a performance by an LED Tron dance team, delivering a visually stunning experience for the audience.
The generational harmony concert will showcase top-tier artists representing different generations, including Jin Sung, Park Myungsoo, Hyolyn, and Changmin, presenting a stage that everyone can enjoy together. In addition, a citizen parade will bring the festival to a grand close, allowing citizens themselves to become the main stars of the event.
The festival grounds will be filled not only with performances but also with a variety of hands-on experiences and exhibitions. Cultural and artistic exhibitions, traditional folk games, local food experiences, and a receipt tour will offer tourists unique attractions. Notably, this year’s festival will include a "Sale Festa" to revitalize the local economy. Various local businesses, such as restaurants, convenience stores, souvenir shops, and clothing and accessory stores, will participate by offering discounts, encouraging tourist spending to benefit local businesses and generate tangible economic effects.
The Donghae Culture and Tourism Foundation aims to increase citizen participation by 5% and achieve a festival satisfaction rate of over 85%. To this end, the foundation will focus on the strategic placement of experience and sales booths, strengthen programs for youth and agriculture, fisheries, and livestock, and optimize venue layouts for smooth movement. Additionally, measures such as operating cooling shelters, deploying safety personnel, controlling traffic, and establishing an emergency medical system will be implemented to ensure a safe and enjoyable festival environment for both citizens and tourists.
A representative from the Donghae Culture and Tourism Foundation stated, "The Mureung Festival is not just a simple festival, but Donghae City's signature event and a stage of hope where both citizens and tourists participate and enjoy together. This year, we will do our utmost to promote the charm of Donghae and lay the foundation for future growth, as citizens and visitors share laughter and unity."
