Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province will host the "2025 National Heritage Media Art" event at Tongdosa Temple from October 3 to October 29.
This event, held under the theme "Light of the Mountain Gate, Encounters in the Garden of the Mind," will offer a unique experience to visitors coming to Tongdosa Temple on autumn nights, with a total of 27 sessions taking place every evening from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Jointly organized by the National Heritage Administration, South Gyeongsang Province, and Yangsan City, and supervised by the National Heritage Promotion Agency and Yeongchuk Chongnim Tongdosa Temple, the event will use a variety of digital technologies-including media facade, interactive content, and laser shows-to express the historical value of Tongdosa Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and the philosophical significance of Buddhism through the art of light.
Eighteen different media art contents will be featured along the path from Mupunghansong-ro to Buirimun Gate. In addition, an episodic video, themed around the Buddhist concept of "Inyeon" (Karma), will depict the stories of people passing through the five gates of Tongdosa Temple and is scheduled to be produced and distributed.
Visitors will be able to enjoy and watch the videos by scanning the QR codes on the information signboards installed in front of each gate.
The five gates of Tongdosa Temple are Yeongchuksanmun, Yeongchukchokrimmun, Iljumun, Cheonwangmun, and Buirimun.
A Yangsan City official stated, "In anticipation of the 2026 Year of Visiting Yangsan, we have set up a separate Yangsan City promotional media art zone. As the Tongdosa Temple Gaesandaeje Yeongchuk Cultural Festival will also be held alongside the media art event, we expect many tourists to stay at Tongdosa Temple and enjoy the festivities." The official added, "We hope this Tongdosa Temple media art event, where light and nature harmonize, will provide an opportunity to widely promote the region's culture and tourism resources."
