Gyeongbuk Province and Pohang City hosted the '2025 Gyeongbuk Bio Industry Expo' with the aim of revitalizing the bio industry and fostering the regional bio sector.
Held under the theme 'Advanced Bio, Opening the Future of Gyeongbuk,' this expo was organized as a platform for exchange and joint development among industry, academia, research institutes, and government.
The event runs for three days from September 11 to 13 at Change Up Ground Pohang, POSCO International Center, and POSCO Life Science Research Center.
Through a variety of programs such as exhibitions, an international symposium, conferences, and corporate investment and export consultations, participants will exchange the latest information on the bio industry and explore visions and strategies for the sector.
On the first day, September 11, the opening ceremony featured a keynote speech by James J. Yoo, Deputy Director of the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine in the United States, on the topic of 'Strategies for the Production and Smooth Delivery System Establishment of Regenerative Medicine Products.'
He presented ways to improve the efficiency of manufacturing and clinical application of regenerative medicine products, outlined a vision for advanced regenerative medical technologies to be applied to real patient care, and suggested directions for future collaboration between public institutions and industry, receiving a positive response.
Following this, Gyeongbuk Province, Pohang City, the Pan-Ministry Regenerative Medicine Technology Development Project Group, POSTECH, Handong Global University, Pohang Technopark, and Pohang Bio Industry Association signed a mutual business cooperation agreement (MOU) for the advancement of the Gyeongbuk advanced regenerative bio industry, agreeing to strengthen technological and research exchanges, institutional linkages, and to establish a joint cooperation system.
Notably, during the expo, a variety of conferences will be held across four fields: bio and pharmaceuticals, green bio, food tech, and hemp, with participation from over 80 renowned domestic and international experts. Through events such as the 'Structure-Based Drug Discovery International Symposium' and the 'Green Bio Industry International Conference,' the future of the bio industry will be discussed in depth.
In addition, at Change Up Ground, investment and export consultations involving domestic and international investors will provide tailored consulting and investment advice to companies with outstanding technologies, while also seeking opportunities for overseas expansion.
Furthermore, at the exhibition hall, which features participation from industry, academia, research institutes, and government, visitors can directly experience the latest bio industry trends, with hands-on programs such as moss terrarium making and business DNA keychain crafting also available.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok said, "The foundation for the bio industry, which we have steadily built over the past ten years, will bear fruit through this expo as a stage for tangible achievements," and added, "We will spare no effort in supporting the strengthening of corporate competitiveness and the leap toward becoming a global hub for future growth."
