Korea Institute of Energy Technology (KENTECH) announced on September 10 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Institute for Basic Science (IBS) for the development and research utilization of heavy ion accelerators.

The agreement, which was signed at the IBS headquarters in Daejeon on the same day, aims to strengthen joint research and educational cooperation between the two institutions based on the national large-scale research facility, the heavy ion accelerator. It also seeks to promote convergence research in basic science and energy fields and to discover and nurture the next generation of research talent.

Under the agreement, the two institutions will focus on: ▲joint research and technology development utilizing the heavy ion accelerator ▲exchange of research personnel and operation of educational programs ▲dissemination of academic achievements and expansion of international joint research networks.

Through this agreement, both institutions expect to systematically advance basic and applied research using the heavy ion accelerator, contribute to securing fundamental technologies required in the era of energy transition, and foster the next generation of research talent.

Park Jin-ho, Acting President, stated, "Through this agreement, Korea Institute of Energy Technology aims to lead convergence research in basic science and energy fields by utilizing the national research infrastructure of the heavy ion accelerator. In particular, we expect this to be a significant turning point for nurturing the next generation of research talent and expanding global research networks."
