Ulsan City has selected the final six teams to participate in the international invited competition for the planning and design of a world-class performance venue.
On September 10 at 1:00 p.m., the city announced that it held an operational committee meeting for the international invited competition for the planning and design of a world-class performance venue in the international conference room on the 4th floor of the main building, where the final participating teams were selected.
A total of 20 teams of world-renowned architects with international design capabilities and creative talent participated in this competition.
The operational committee, composed of six experts including professors in the field of architecture, conducted a rigorous review and discussion based on criteria such as international standing and experience, track record with projects of similar scale and purpose, and specialized design capabilities. As a result, a total of six teams were selected: four international teams and two domestic teams.
The international teams are: ▲Herzog & de Meuron (Switzerland), ▲Ateliers Jean Nouvel (France), ▲Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) (Denmark), and ▲Foster and Partners (United Kingdom). The domestic teams are ▲Designcamp Moonpark DMP and ▲The System Lab Architects.
The six selected teams will begin the design process after completing their registration, which will last for about three months.
By December 10, they must submit a master plan for the performance venue, site plans, and floor plans. Ulsan City will conduct a review and announce the final four outstanding teams on December 24.
A city official stated, "We expect this performance venue to serve as a turning point for Ulsan, elevating it from an industrial capital to a cultural city," and added, "We will do our best to collaborate with world-class architects to create a landmark that embodies Ulsan's unique identity."
The world-class performance venue project will be carried out on the Samsan Landfill site in Samsan-dong, Nam-gu, with a total project cost of 500 billion won. The complex, with a total floor area of 50,000 square meters, will include a multipurpose performance hall (2,500 seats) and an immersive digital content theater.
