The event, hosted by Professor Park Kyunghee, began with Department Chair Cha Jungwon presenting the first certificate to Lee Dongmin, the top scorer. Professors Jung Sehun (Director of the University Innovation Support Project Group) and Park Kyunghee then presented certificates to the other successful candidates, encouraging the students for their achievements.

The IACLE STE exam is a globally recognized test designed to foster contact lens specialists, covering areas such as contact lens characteristics and fitting, side effects, clinical cases, and myopia management. While the global average pass rate among optometry students is 50%, 21 out of 25 fourth-year students from Shinhan University’s Department of Optometry passed, achieving a high pass rate of 84%.

Lee Dongmin, who achieved the highest score, shared, "I was able to pass thanks to my diligent participation in contact lens classes and practical training over the past semester. I am delighted to be recognized as a contact lens specialist, especially after passing an exam taken by students from optometry schools worldwide."

Professor Park Kyunghee, the supervising professor, commented, "Through the preparation process and results for obtaining the IACLE STE certification, I believe Shinhan University students have taken a step ahead as global contact lens specialists. Especially now, when dry eye and myopia management are increasingly important, obtaining a contact lens-related certificate will serve as a relevant qualification and be helpful for employment in ophthalmology clinics and optical shops."

The Department of Optometry at Shinhan University began as the Department of Optometry at Shinheung College in 1989. It now offers four-year undergraduate and graduate (master’s and doctoral) programs and is located in Uijeongbu, Gyeonggi Province.
