Korean history instructor Han Gil Jeon is demonstrating his influence by making bold statements on his YouTube channel. During a recent live broadcast, as the number of viewers exceeded 20,000, he excitedly remarked, "At this rate, we could soon shake up the People Power Party."
On September 9, Han Gil Jeon stated on his YouTube channel, Jeon Han Gil News, "If there are 20,000 live viewers, including replays, that's 200,000 to 300,000 viewers, and with Shorts included, 1 million people watch this broadcast." He added, "I am determined to increase the number of live viewers from 20,000 to 200,000 in the future."
He also expressed his intention to increase party membership in order to expand his influence within the People Power Party. He argued that party members are the true owners of a political party, and questioned why it would be a problem for them to exercise their influence.
Han stated, "There are currently 530,000 subscribers to 'Jeon Han Gil News.' If all of them join the People Power Party as members, we could easily sway the party, which currently has 750,000 members." He continued, "What is wrong with citizens electing the president and party members electing the party leader? Through Jeon Han Gil News, I intend to encourage party membership and create a world where party members are the true owners."
Some have analyzed Han Gil Jeon's recent activities as laying the groundwork for a political career. However, the prevailing view is that his main goal is to expand his influence as a right-wing voice in the media, positioning himself as a prominent speaker for the conservative camp. This is similar to how Kim Eo-jun has become a powerful voice for the Democratic Party, and Han aims to fill the previously vacant role of a conservative spokesperson to provide a counterbalance.
He also stated through his YouTube videos that politics does not suit him. In response to speculation about his potential nomination for next June's local elections, he said that if Jin Sook Lee, the chairwoman of the Korea Communications Commission, decides to run, he would unconditionally step aside for her.
