Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province will utilize city-owned land in Maam-ri, Bubal-eup as the site for the "Icheon Science High School," which is scheduled to open in 2030.
The city announced on September 10 that this plan is being pursued following discussions with the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education regarding the establishment of the science high school.
The city had initially considered the area of Jeungil-dong as the school site. However, due to a central government interpretation that prohibits basic local governments from purchasing land for school construction, the city decided to use city-owned land that does not require a separate land acquisition process.
The selected site is adjacent to Hyoyang Neighborhood Park and the Seohee History Museum. The city expects that transportation accessibility will be significantly improved once the Bubal Station Integrated Transfer Center is completed in the future.
During the process of establishing the science high school, the city plans to thoroughly eliminate any hazardous environments and dangerous facilities in the surrounding area to ensure student safety.
