On September 9, the Gwangmyeong Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced that they had urgently arrested and are investigating high school student A on suspicion of attempted abduction of a minor.
Student A is accused of following elementary school student B out of an elevator at an apartment complex in Gwangmyeong City at around 4:20 p.m. the previous day, covering her mouth, and attempting to drag her away. He fled the scene when student B cried out loudly and resisted.
Afterwards, student B informed her parents of the incident. The parents checked the elevator CCTV footage and reported the case to the police at around 6:55 p.m. on the same day.
The responding officers identified student A and arrested him at his residence at around 9:45 p.m.
The police are currently investigating student A's motive for the attempted crime and plan to obtain a victim statement from student B through the Sunflower Center.
A police official stated, "It has not yet been determined whether the perpetrator and the victim knew each other or what the motive for the crime was," adding, "Since the suspect is also a minor, an investigation could not be conducted at night, so it will be carried out during the day."
