Neue Klasse Embodies BMW’s Next-Generation Vision
First Applied to iX3, Gradual Rollout to 40 Models by 2027

BMW unveiled the 'BMW iX3', the first mass-produced model of the Neue Klasse, for the first time in the world at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Germany.

The iX3, revealed by BMW on September 8 (local time), is a pure electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) model. The company has introduced changes across all areas, including a new design, the latest 6th-generation BMW eDrive system, a new high-voltage battery with cylindrical cells, and advanced electronic and software architecture.

'Neue Klasse' represents BMW's core values and vision for opening a new future in every aspect of mobility, including technology, driving experience, and design. BMW plans to gradually apply the technologies introduced through the Neue Klasse to a total of 40 new and facelifted models by 2027.

Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the BMW Group, emphasized, "The Neue Klasse is BMW's most essential future project and marks a significant leap forward in technology, driving experience, and design. The BMW iX3 is not simply the next-generation model of BMW's most successful pure electric vehicle, but a symbol of the new era that BMW is ushering in."

The exterior design of the BMW iX3 fully embodies the values and characteristics of the Neue Klasse, which modernizes BMW’s unique design language. The new BMW kidney grille, which continues the vertical design of the Neue Klasse from the 1960s, serves as the focal point of the front design. The interior emphasizes a clean and minimalist design, expanding the scope of the digital experience.

The BMW iX3 is the first mass-produced BMW model to feature the 'BMW Panoramic iDrive'. By balancing digital features and physical controls, it enables intuitive operation of functions. In particular, BMW Panoramic Vision projects various information across the entire lower section of the windshield for passengers. Key driving information is displayed within the driver’s line of sight, while content shown in the center and passenger areas can be customized according to the needs or preferences of the occupants.

BMW is also introducing the 6th-generation BMW eDrive technology, developed for the Neue Klasse, for the first time through the new iX3. This technology consists of a highly efficient electric motor, a high-voltage battery with cylindrical cells, and 800V technology. The iX3 50 xDrive delivers a combined maximum output of 469 horsepower and a combined maximum torque of 65.8 kg·m (645 Nm), accelerating from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. The iX3 50 xDrive is certified in Europe for a maximum driving range of 805 km.

The electronic architecture of the Neue Klasse consists of four high-performance computers, known as the 'Superbrain'. Among these, the Superbrain responsible for powertrain and driving dynamics management is called the 'Heart of Joy'. The Heart of Joy, which oversees the powertrain, braking system, energy regeneration, and steering sub-functions, processes information up to 10 times faster than previous control units.
