On September 9, the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korea Exhibition Industry Promotion Association via written agreement to strengthen the competitiveness of Gyeonggi-do's exhibition industry and foster the local exhibition sector.
This agreement was pursued to enhance the global competitiveness of the domestic exhibition industry, which has been recovering rapidly since the pandemic, and to systematically nurture the exhibition ecosystem in Gyeonggi-do, the central hub of the metropolitan area’s exhibition industry.
Under the agreement, the two organizations will cooperate in various areas, including reducing exhibition certification fees, providing training for exhibition operators and participating companies, and collaborating on other initiatives to boost the competitiveness of the exhibition industry.
In particular, they have agreed to reduce exhibition certification fees by 20% when applying for certification and to operate educational programs for participating companies and exhibition operators to enhance on-site competitiveness.
Exhibition certification is a system in which the Promotion Association directly investigates and verifies key data such as the number of participating companies, the number of visitors, and exhibition area, officially certifying that the event meets the standards of the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI).
Kim Hyungon, President of the Gyeonggi-do Economic Science Promotion Agency, stated, "The exhibition industry is a 'golden industry without smokestacks' and plays an important role in business growth and revitalizing the local economy. We will continue to identify and support exhibitions with high growth potential to strengthen the global competitiveness of Gyeonggi-do's exhibition industry."
Meanwhile, since 2020, the agency has been operating the "Gyeonggi Exhibition Industry Promotion Support Project" to discover and support exhibitions in the province with high growth potential.
