The Bank of Korea announced on September 7 that, following the application period for purchasing the "80th Anniversary of Liberation" commemorative coins, the number of reservations for both single coins and two-coin sets exceeded the total quantity to be issued. As a result, the coins will be distributed through a random draw.
According to the Bank of Korea, a total of 27,274 reservations for the "80th Anniversary of Liberation" commemorative coins were received through Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corporation, NH Nonghyup Bank, and Woori Bank. Considering the planned issuance volume of 12,000 coins in total, the average competition ratio stands at approximately 1.95 to 1.
Since the number of applications for both the single coins (Silver Coin I and Silver Coin II) and the two-coin sets exceeded the available quantity, the Bank of Korea, together with the Minting Corporation, will select the recipients through a random draw. The draw will take place on September 9, with separate draws for single coins and sets. Each single coin will be assigned one number per coin, and each two-coin set will be assigned one number per set, after which the winners will be randomly selected.
The winners will be announced at 11 a.m. on September 16, and applicants can check the results and the quantity allocated on the respective institution's website. Distribution will begin on October 28.
