Park Seungwon, the mayor of Gwangmyeong City in Gyeonggi Province, is reaching out to citizens on their way home from work. The aim is to create an open space for communication with busy office workers during their commute.
On September 4, Gwangmyeong City announced that Mayor Park will hold "Conversations with Citizens on the Go: Let's Meet on Your Way Home!" four times between September 15 and October 13.
The city explained that although it has previously run various communication programs such as "Conversations with Citizens and Visits to Neighborhoods" and "Our Neighborhood Mayor's Office," these were mostly held during the daytime, which limited participation from office workers and students. This new initiative was launched based on Mayor Park's assessment of that limitation.
Mayor Park stated, "Any Gwangmyeong citizen can stop by on their way home and freely express their opinions," adding, "I will make sure not to overlook even the smallest suggestions and will reflect them in city administration to build a better Gwangmyeong."
The events will take place in key areas during the evening commute, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.: at the Gwangmyeongsageori Station Rest Area on September 15, the Cheolsan Commercial District Circular Plaza on September 26, the Muui Park Meeting Plaza on September 29, and the Hannaecheon Circular Plaza on October 13.
