Chungnam Province has joined hands with local lawmakers from both the ruling and opposition parties to usher in the era of a 12 trillion won government budget next year and to address key regional issues.

Governor Kim Tae-heum emphasized the inclusion of core projects such as the Chungnam National University Naepo Campus and the National Dental Research Institute during the National Assembly's budget review process, urging lawmakers for their active support.

On September 4, the province held a policy briefing at the small conference room of the National Assembly Library in Seoul, inviting local lawmakers to discuss ways to secure next year's government budget and to cooperate on resolving regional issues.

The briefing was attended by more than 30 people, including lawmakers Lee Jaegwan, Lee Jeongmoon, Jang Donghyuk, Sung Iljong, Hwang Myungseon, Uh Kigoo, and Kang Seungkyu from both parties, as well as Governor Kim Tae-heum and department heads.

During the briefing, the province presented 29 proposed projects for next year's government budget and 21 regional issues and major legislative bills, requesting the lawmakers' active cooperation.

The main proposed projects include: the establishment of the Chungnam National University Naepo Campus; construction of the Livestock Environment Management Institute building; establishment of the Seosan branch of the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology; creation of the Intelligent Sensor Spin-on Support Center; construction of the Green Semiconductor Process Test Bed; creation of the Chungnam Fisheries Food Cluster; and construction of the Seonggeo-Mokcheon National Road No. 1.

For regional issues, the province called for government-level support for: relocation of public institutions in the Seoul metropolitan area to the Chungnam Innovation City; creation of climate response dams in Jicheon, Cheongyang and Buyeo; establishment of the second Central Police Academy in Chungnam; building an ecosystem to respond to the AI transition in future vehicles; enactment of a special law for areas affected by the closure of coal-fired power plants; and enactment of a special law to establish the Daejeon-Chungnam Special City.

Governor Kim Tae-heum stated, "We set next year's government budget target at 12.3 trillion won, and as a result of our efforts, the government proposal reflects 11.9297 trillion won, an increase of more than 1 trillion won compared to last year." He emphasized, "It is essential to secure additional funding for projects such as the Chungnam National University Naepo Campus and the establishment of the National Dental Research Institute in Cheonan during the remaining National Assembly review process."

He added, "I ask for the lawmakers' continued cooperation and active role to improve the quality of life for residents and advance regional development."
